Chinese ports handle over 190 million teu so far in 2024

With our portfolio of international container shipping services and strong presence in China, we note that an article on the Container News website reports that Chinese ports handled 190.9 million teu from January to July 2024, marking an 8.3% year-on-year increase.

Quoting figures released by the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, the article says that in July, Shanghai Port recorded a container throughput of 4.84 million teu, reflecting a 15.1% year-on-year growth, while Ningbo Zhoushan Port handled 3.35 million teu, up by 5.3% compared to the previous year.

As the two busiest ports in China, Shanghai and Ningbo Zhoushan have also enjoyed container volume increases in the first seven months of the year of 8.6% and 7.9% respectively.

Only Xiamen recorded a decline in teu handled from January to July, with volumes falling by 3.3% for the period.
