A recent article on the American Journal of Transportation website about the potential lowering of the de minimis threshold in the USA was of interest to the U-Freight Group, given the level of our involvement in e-commerce logistics.
The article explains how the US Government plans to prevent Chinese e-commerce giants from exploiting an existing loophole in import regulations, before going on to report that analysts are warning that action by the US government ‘will not put the genie back in the bottle’.
It is widely reported that the Biden administration is moving to curb low-value shipments entering the US duty-free under the USD800 ‘de minimis’ threshold, which it says has been abused by Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Shein and Temu.
