Shanghai international trade exceeds USD280 billion in first half of 2023

With a comprehensive portfolio of international freight forwarding services through most of China’s main gateways, the U-Freight Group notes that according to Seatrade Maritime News, Shanghai's total import and export value hit RMB2.09 trillion (USD280 billion) in the first half of 2023, an increase of 11.4% year-on-year, marking a new high.
The publication reports that exports reached RMB846.3bn, up 15.2% year-on-year, while imports were RMB1.25 trillion, an increase of 9.1%. Foreign-invested enterprises' import and export value reached RMB1.23 trillion, accounting for 59%, an increase of 6.3 percent year-on-year.

With a significant presence in the city, U-Freight is well positioned to facilitate imports from and exports China's major trading partners, including the EU, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), North America, Japan and Australia, which  retained a steady growth in the first six months of 2023.

Seatrade noted three new-emerging export goods from Shanghai including electric vehicles, lithium batteries and solar cells, which it reports saw a substantial growth rate of 171.8%, 189.7% and 62.6%, respectively.
