With a large portfolio of ocean freight forwarding and logistics services, the U-Freight Group’s attention was drawn to an article on the Container News website reporting that the combined capacity of the major alliances, together with MSC, now accounts for 82.5 percent of global container shipping capacity. That’s up from 82.1 percent four months ago.
We note that represents a further concentration of capacity among the largest cooperative groups.
It appears to demonstrate not only the operational advantages of collaboration, but also the increasingly limited room for independent shipping lines to compete in most trades.
Whilst MSC remains independent, its sheer scale and global reach, place it in a league of its own. As of today, it commands 21 percent of global container shipping capacity, according to the report, which can be read in full here: https://container-news.com/shipping-alliances-carriers-and-msc-continue-to-control-over-82-of-market/
