The redeployment of tonnage to the Asia-US trade route through major transshipment ports is causing vessel bunching at major hubs in Asia, slowing cargo and soaking up functional capacity when US importers need it most.

Recent Portcast data, as displayed on JOC.com\u2019s Gateway, shows a sharp spike in vessels waiting to berth at Shanghai, Ningbo, Singapore and Port Klang.

Ocean carriers are shifting capacity toward trades serving the US to meet a rebound in demand driven by the 90-day reprieve on higher US tariffs and the start of peak season for year-end holidays.

The pause on higher US tariffs for countries other than China expires July 9, while the temporary reduction in tariffs for imports from China \u2014 from 145% to 30% \u2014 expires in mid-August.
