As part of the sector that underpins global trade, the U-Freight Group welcomes the agreement between the United States and China to temporarily slash punishing tariffs.
With our comprehensive portfolio of freight and logistics services on the transpacific route, we expect to see trade between China and the USA buoyed by a resulting recovery in bookings from China to the USA.
The United States will cut extra tariffs it imposed on Chinese imports in April to 30% from 145% and Chinese duties on U.S. imports will fall to 10% from 125% for the next 90 days, the two sides said.
The immediate surge of cargo from China to the US will be for two reasons.
There is already a large amount of cargo ready to go as US importers have been adopting a ‘wait and see’ strategy.
Secondly, the 90-day pause expires in the middle of the usual peak season for holiday-related goods going to the USA.
U-Freight expects a possible pull-forward of cargo creating a shorter, sharper peak season from basically right now.
