A product that contains a lithium battery is not automatically ready for air freight. The battery’s relationship to the product, the product information available, the packing arrangement, the destination and the proposed carrier arrangement can all affect what needs to be reviewed before booking or warehouse inbound.

Start with the battery’s relationship to the product
The words “battery-powered product” do not provide enough detail for a shipment review. A battery may be contained in equipment, packed with equipment, supplied separately, or be part of a multi-component product. These are different starting points for reviewing a proposed air shipment.
Before asking for a route or rate, confirm the product name and intended use, the battery type, how the battery is supplied with the product, and the number of batteries or cells per unit where available. A product photo or URL can also help show the product’s form factor, power source and intended packing.
A pre-check is not a cargo-acceptance guarantee. Final acceptance, routing, documentation, packing and handling are confirmed case by case against the actual goods, destination, carrier conditions and applicable requirements.
Prepare a concise pre-check pack
A short, accurate set of facts is usually more useful than a long, unstructured submission. Start with the following information.

Packaging and commercial information still matter
Battery information should be considered alongside the rest of the shipment. The commercial invoice, packing list and the physical cargo should describe the same goods. Carton counts, weights, quantities and product descriptions should match across the shipment information. Inconsistent records can create avoidable follow-up after warehouse inbound or during a proposed shipping process.
For high-value electronics, physical protection is also part of the preparation. Why review before warehouse inbound?
If a product’s documentation, packing or configuration needs clarification only after it has reached the warehouse, the shipment may require additional handling, repacking or a change in the proposed transport arrangement. Reviewing the information before booking or inbound gives the shipper, warehouse and transport teams a shared starting point.
This approach is particularly useful for products that combine electronics with liquids, magnetic components, aerosols, chemicals, unusual shapes or special labelling requirements. These characteristics should be disclosed early rather than discovered during a later operational step.
